Job Description

The Graphic Designer shapes the clients’ and Smarter Good’s visual branding and storytelling. The role collaborates with Writers, Editors, Account Managers, and Researchers on multiple creative projects simultaneously while maintaining fidelity to fundraising communications strategies and standards.

Key Responsibility Areas

The Graphic Designer has key responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Conceptualize and design communications materials, including but not limited to annual reports, newsletters, one- or two-pagers, impact stories, press kits, websites, blogs, and other pieces that advance the fundraising goals of nonprofits and social enterprises.
  • Oversee production and distribution schedules of print and electronic communication; maintain editorial calendars; and coordinate timing of regular communication channels, while maintaining a high level of client service, utilizing financial resources efficiently, developing and/or adhering to brand guidelines, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Develop and deliver communications project output in accordance with editorial and production timelines, communications strategies and guidelines, leveraging technology, AI, and other tools and systems to ensure quality, efficiency, and timeliness.
  • Develop and execute communications initiatives that align with clientsʼ and Smarter Good’s fundraising, business, or organizational directions.
  • Collaborate with Writers, Editors, Account Managers, and Researchers in delivering output that shows an understanding of the clients’ work, issue areas, audience, and communications landscape.
  • Work with the Editorial and Content Team (ECT) to improve the quality of existing internal and external communications materials.
  • Strategize, create, post, and manage content for Smarter Goodʼs website, blog, and social networking sites, and relevant platforms, events, and other initiatives.

Key Result Areas

  • Conceptualization, Design, and Delivery of Communication Materials: Develop visually appealing materials such as annual reports, newsletters, one- or two-pagers, impact stories, press kits, websites, and blogs for clients and Smarter Good in a timely and relevant manner.
  • Production and Presentation of Creative Proposals: Co-develop and co-present creative pitches and content directions (themes, outlines, concepts, strategies) with team members to drive impactful outcomes.
  • Client Service and Brand Adherence: Deliver excellent client service, maintain adherence to brand guidelines, and consistently produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Effectiveness of Executing Communications Projects: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and implement communication strategies, plans, and tactics to meet fundraising and organizational goals.
  • Quality Improvement of Communications Materials: Elevate the quality of internal and external communication materials in collaboration with the ECT, while also developing and managing content for Smarter Good’s online platforms.
  • Data Management: Support in optimizing information management processes by collaboratively leveraging technology and AI within the design team, ensuring efficient processing of client information and contributing to Smarter Good’s enhanced information management efforts.
