Job Description

Writer-Researchers will analyze data and apply strategic thought to create compelling grant proposals, reports, and other program-related content in line with client requirements and in keeping with Smarter Good’s standards. The ideal candidate will possess a global mindset and a commitment to helping social sector organizations around the world scale their impact. The post will be based in Manila.

Role and Responsibilities

The position will require successful applicants to:

  • Leveraging Smarter Good’s client and funder research database and conducting independent issue area and sector research to inform, enrich, and validate fundraising and communications content strategies;
  • Analyzing data and recommending a strategy and an approach for grant applications;
  • Drafting strategic content, including email outreaches and inquiry forms, to help clients cultivate strong relationships with funders; and
  • Leveraging technology, AI, and other tools that ensure quality, efficiency, and timeliness to write high-quality compelling fundraising content and managing submission process and to create other products that support the fundraising and organizational development needs of Smarter Good and its clients, including but not limited to email updates, newsletters, blog or social media content, impact stories, and quarterly or annual reports.

Key Result Areas

  • Incorporating Research into Content Production: Combine Smarter Good and independent research findings, and original insights to inform writing strategies that will strengthen the narrative’s credibility and value, and position the client as an authority in the issue area.
  • Funder Cultivation: Elevate collaboration potential through a profound understanding of both the client’s and funders’ interests, funding priorities, and strategic goals, integrating clear calls-to-action that actively guide deeper engagement.
  • Content Production: Utilize technology to produce compelling grant and communications narratives and strategically emphasize the client’s value proposition, success stories, and mission alignment to boost funder engagement. Utilize new and enhanced compelling language supported by relevant data and evidence for increased effectiveness.
  • Client Presentation: Develop and present content strategies and creative pitches, ensuring that all content aligns with Smarter Good’s or the client’s brand voice, values, and mission.
  • Content Alignment: Ensure that all fundraising and communications content aligns with Smarter Good’s or the client’s brand voice, values, and mission.
  • Grant Application Management: Ensure timely submission of content and regular updates of knowledge and language resources to support the end-to-end process of grant applications.
  • Data Management: Support in optimizing information management processes by collaboratively leveraging technology and AI within the writing team, ensuring efficient processing of client information and contributing to Smarter Good’s enhanced information management efforts.

Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of full-time business or technical writing experience is an advantage
  • Fresh graduates are open to apply
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A strong command of technical American English, with excellent grammatical standards and solid writing skills
  • Experience and/or genuine interest in international development, social entrepreneurship, and the nonprofit sector – grant proposal writing experience preferred
  • A flair for the creative with an analytical approach
  • The capability to think and work with minimal supervision, combined with the ability to work well in teams and to be open to peer-sharing and brainstorming
  • Integrity and strong work ethic
